Magnus and Oliver's Zenith Pre-BaselWorld 2014 report . . .

Mar 16, 2014,23:28 PM

Magnus and Oliver took a small detour from the SIHH to meet with Zenith for a relaxed preview on some of this year's Basel novelties. The result is presented as a collaboration of Purists, separated by an ocean, eight time zones, and something less than six degrees.

You know what I admire most about them?  These two pull no punches.  If they like something, they say so.  If they don't, there's no beating around the bush.

Experience?  They have it in spades.  And perspective, too.

This year, they've decided to allow me to introduce the Zenith novelties, while they take a measured step back and comment from the sidelines.  I'm going to put myself in their shoes and assess the latest from Le Locle using the method practiced by . . .

. . . Siskel and Ebert*: signaling thumbs up or down.

* Siskel and Ebert covered cinema for different newspapers in Chicago, and whose program on PBS made them highly influential film critics for decades.  Much like Magnus and Oliver!
