Zenith Star Open - insights for the ladies!

One addition to Zenith's collection this accidentally was omitted from the reports here - the Zenith Star Open :

The timepiece is member to Zenith's recently presented Star collection dedicated to female watch enthusiasts. Its main unique (for Zenith) characteristic is a sensual cushion shaped case in a medium 37x37mm case.

The construction is quite elaborate and offers a multitude of surface elements for light to play with. Just note the sides and the crown:

Covering the dial is a domed and waisted sapphire crystal with anti-reflection treatment on both side. Its adds tremendously to the visual excitement as well.

Below a finely detailed silvered dial with central guillochage. The escapement is visible through a heart-shaped cut out which matches nicely with the sanguineous rhodinised hands.

Yes, that's a heart which indicates the heart's beat - of course the venerable El Primero 4062 movement, in its full glory to be admired on the flip side of the watch:

Again, note the many details introduced into the case design, e.g. at the edges which attach to the lugs. The alligator leather strap comes with a stark red protective rubber lining inside.

A straight view reveals the generous and at the same time fragile nature of the Star Open: The timepiece is a serious piece of horology, and in this implementation in no way adulterated like we see way to often with ladies' watches. The construction of the case enables a dial size which spans almost the entire case width.

The watch offers usable chronograph functions which do not dominate the appearance. In fact, they are integrated in a fashion (pun intended) which enhance the female attitude instead of being at odds with it. This is manifest e.g. in the design of the pushers, which are well to operate but are optically restrained. Or in the layout of the dial, which makes no compromise in terms of time-counting functions (in the context of a 30min chronograph, that is), but allows for some playful moments if time-keeping is considered.

This I think is the real hidden mystery of this watch!

Magnus

It's a more feminine version of the Heritage Zenith Star I review a little while ago which was an amazing watch. I am not sure about the little red heart on the dial though. Does it have a purpose? If not, I wish they would have left it out. Thanks for sh...
