Another Basel novelty: Zenith Winsor Annual Calendar

Jun 03, 2011,00:43 AM

What makes this watch so interesting is its combination of a chronograph with an annual calendar, that has to be manually corrected only on March 1st of each year. The base mechanism had been developed by noone less than Ludwig Oechslin, and realized for the first time in the famous MIH watch. Zenith modified the mechanism and combined it with the chronograph, that itself was modified to show a 60 minutes counter, without the 12 hours counter, that would have cluttered the dial too much.

Several pictures of the Winsor have been seen on the web already, but I do not recall having seen many of this attractive variant with dark blue dial:

A feature article will be dedicated to the Winsor later this year.

Regards,
Marcus

Design wise, I don't like the words "annaul calendar" printed at 12 o'clock. Also Marcus, in your last pic, the day and month windows seems to have bumps and unevenness? Best, Horo

I cannot recall when I have last seen a new model watch ...

... with real production standard finish in Basel. Yes, the last picture shows some flaws in the date window frames, which I would not accept on a timepiece purchased in the shop. However, the big fairs force the brands to assemble watches from components...

I really like the blue dial on this watch.

It's quite legible, as well, which is a plus for me! Thanks, Marcus, for the photos and thoughts! Cheers, Daos

Extremely cool! Quibble with the day date font

the letters look very thin and small, lacking 'authority' or presence... but this is a very cool very modern, very nice watch.

Lovely dial and layout

But I can't get over the date not being at 4:30 and the wrong overlap.
