Zenith: Pole 2 Pole!

Mar 13, 2011,15:42 PM

The adventurer Johan Ernst Nilson is the first Swede to become ambassador for the watch brand Zenith!

In a joint venture with Zenith he will travel from pole to pole without any use of motorized vehicles!

Johan Ernst Nilson will walk in the footsteps of the famous Norwegian adventurer Roald Amundsen who was the first to set his foot on the geographical South Pole (1911) and also the first to have gone both to the North and South Pole.

During Roald Amundsen’s expedition to the South Pole he was wearing a Zenith watch!

CEO Jean-Frédéric Dufour and Johan Ernst Nilson

In honour of this adventure Zenith will issue a special watch: Pole 2 Pole.

During the presentation I had a chance to speak to Mr Dufour briefly and he seems to be a very nice gentleman that, IMO has put Zenith back on the right track!

Love their new collection of vintage inspired watches!

It was a very nice event and in the crowd I spotted two vintage watches (sorry, not Zenith).

As a special favour I was allowed to hang back when the crowd started to scatter and snapped a few quick and dirty of some of the watches…

The Elite Ultra Thin.

The El Primero Captain with chocolate dial and RG hands and index.

The Phase de Luna Grand Date

Sorry for the poor photo quality, it was a very crowded event and the light settings make it very difficult…

I hope you enjoy!

Best

Blomman

Excellent reportage, Blomman . . .

. . . and many thanks for the effort in bringing this news to us. One can understand Sweden's pride in Nilson's attempt to traverse the globe without the assistance of modern machines - except, of course, his Zenith El Primero! Btw, your photo of the Pole...

Hi Art,

Yes, Johan Ernst Nilson is one of Sweden’s most experienced adventures right now. Among others he has climbed the "Seven Summits", the seven highest mountains on the seven continents. Thank you very much for your kind words and the Masthead honour! ...

Thanks.

Thank you for patiently staying back to get us those pictures. I thought the quality of the pics were very good. Just that it is evident the lightings played havoc. Otherwise that pic wouldn't have made it to the masthead. Congrats. :o) Ed

Yes, I just realized…

Thank you, Ed! I just realized that Art selected the Pole 2 Pole as new Masthead! Very honoured! Best Blomman

I cannot waite to see more pictures of the Pole to Pole. I must say that the name is inpiring, something to be remembered. Maybe something that will last??? Best regards, George

Unfortunately I was late to the party…

So I missed if they gave some specific info about the watch. But hopefully this one will find its way into their collection! Thank you, George! Best Blomman

Delighted to see Zenith offering more classic watches.

A sober, classic and elegant design always works! Interesting story about the Pole 2 Pole watch: Is this an amagnetic watch, a bit like one you and me know very well? Best, Blomman. Nicolas.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have the chance ask question about this watch… But I do hope it is – otherwise he will be in trouble! Thank you, Nico! Best Blomman

Thanks for the pics...

I must confess that my knowledge about the brand is really limited. But after the Defy Extreme line that really wasn’t my taste Zenith has turned around and now I find myself wanting to know more! Best Blomman

Thanks a lot Blomman !

Thanks for the report. As a fan of black watches, I really like that black Stratos. The pushers are also a nice shape. A very appealing watch. The Elite Moonphase looks great. I like watches with the raised bezel, it gives them a lot of character and look...

That is a detail I am very fond of as well! IMO, gives the watch much better depth! Thank you, Rickr! Best Blomman

Thanks a lot for the report blomman...

I'm still planning to add a Zenith in my collection at some point, I thought it was going to be this year but I got bitten by the BP FF bug. I'm a Big fan of current Zenith models. Best Drew

Thanks for report Blomman and a glimpse of the Stratos. Do you happen to have a caseback view and try-on the piece? Kong PS : You are faster than the post release

Sorry…

This is the best photo I got. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to try the watch or take more pics. What I can tell you is that in the photo it’s Johan Ernst Nilson’s watch and wrist! So, probably this is the watch he will be wearing during his expediti...

Thanks, Blomman...

...I'm just happy seeing the 2 Enicars

Yes, the two Enicars was an unexpected surprise! :)

By: blomman Mr Blue : March 23rd, 2011-13:11
The two gentlemen with these watches didn’t know each other… But in the sea of Zenith’s they found each other very fast! Thank you, BDLJ! Here is an extra treat for you! Best Blomman...

Elite Ultra Thin in blue is gorgeous!

But like all of these watches... movement is too small! I do not like the back of any of these watches--they betray the wrong-composition of movement/case ratio.... but so what. Zenith is reborn.

I agree with you on the…

I agree with you on the movement/ration! But I have started to wonder if I/We demand too much from the manufacture? Because I get this feeling when I look at many brands that have open case backs on their watches. Maybe we think too much of them? Maybe it...
