Independents: The only reason I've ever heard/read is that platinum is more difficult to work...

...resulting in having to use more tools, etc. Don't know if it's true or not. Not sure that justifies doubling the price for a less costly metal...

Independents: Steel: The Poor Man's Platinum®

Platinum is great, but manufacturers get a huge premium for it over gold. I guess it's tougher to work with, but I think it's a marketing ploy we've all fallen for. I checked today's metal prices. Omega: I love vintage...

...but some patina looks like damage. In the case of dive watches, it looks like water got into the cases. Not sure how this dial got this way. If it were my watch I would love it, but I'd wonder if the manufacturer were using defective materials...
