Disappointing to me

Jan 08, 2014,18:13 PM

I tried a couple of these Speedy 57's--one with a band and one with a bracelet at the Omega Boutique in Orlando.  I do have a smaller wrist so coming in to the store, this version was my dream Speedy.  The in-house coaxial movement, sapphire case back, and date function all wrapped up in a reasonable 41.5mm package was "perfect" for my next watch.  I just needed to confirm my impressions.  Wow, was I wrong.  As others have mentioned, the watch is thick.  And I don't necessarily mind a thicker watch, but the lugs to me are disproportionally long and straight so the watch did not sit well on my wrist.  There was a pretty big gap between the strap and case.  The bracelet helped a little, but not much.

Much to my surprise, the large co-axial 44.25mm Speedy had much shorter and curved lugs that made the watch hug my wrist better.  I even got to try on a DOSM and it was really nice, light, and looked fantastic.  I still love the look of the Speedy 57's, but they're just not for me.

with caliber 9300/9301 and equipped with a silicon balance spring. It was already introduced in Basel 2013, but I cant remember we talked a lot about the watch. Well, Imran (aka Miranda) mentioned it once or twice. Did I miss it? The Omega Speedmaster is...

Aesthetically it is a super modern interpretation of the ck. 2915 Movement is superb and of all the cal 9300 dials the layout is best in this one Downside : it's a very thick watch and I'm not keen on the double sapphire box concept And the price, it's a ...

Thanks a lot, Imran!

Hi Oliver, I like the new 57 very much. I did hear it weighs in a little heavy and was partial to the titanium model... But after thinking more about it, going to stay with my current Broad Arrow... And Mondphase... I don't think you're a watch snob at...

"weighs in a little heavy"

Richard, I would not mind the weight. I am used to some heavier watches ... :-) Nice Omega´s by the way. Thanks, Oliver

Interesting model

I remember well this one poping in 2013. I always liked the Speeedmaster (I have a Mark IV) and especially this dial that will never go out of fashion. Here, I'm not sure it's my favorite dial among the collection. I like 2 sub-dials dials but I don't che...

They didn't sing to me for several reasons ... (Sorry for the lousy Smartphone pic.) My likes: 1) The movement 2) The great concept to have the minute and hour chronograph accumulators on a single dial. Dislikes: 1) The date seems like it was put there af...

Dauphine hands, don't me ask why, I consider a perfect match for vintage or vintage looking watches. They look good on my "First Omega in Space" (I love this watch), More modern design demands more modern styled hands, IMHO. Cheers, Nilo ...

"Dauphine hands"

In general I don´t like them, but there are to die for exceptions :-) Oliver

Aren't they rather "lancette hands"?

Dauphine normally are not slimmer at the axis: However, there are so many variants and style mixtures, that nobody can categorize them for sure. Marcus ...

... IMHO. I was extremely close to order that one. What put me off personally was the thickness of the case. I admit that the current cal. 9300 is state of the art, but in its way rather a formula 1 car, when I need a perfect sportscar for everyday use. I...

With watches with non-standard dial colors (standard are black and ... black, just like my cars) I have a brief and intense passion (that lasts days) and then they stay on the drawer. Cheers, Nilo

Hi Oliver, I tried a Speedy 57 last November at the boutique in Hamburg. It was the black dialed one and this one was great. Fits perfect for my wrist and compared to the PO Chrono with 9300 mvmt the watch was not to thick. I'm not sure if I can imagine t...
